Welcome to Stockholm!
Dear colleagues:
You
are very welcome to attend the 18th International Symposium on Nonlinear
Acoustics (ISNA), July 7 to 10, 2008, at
The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH)
on Valhallavägen 79 in Stockholm, Sweden. Please note that the nearest
underground station is Tekniska Högskolan.
Swedish researchers have been active in nonlinear acoustics since the beginning
of the 1980´s. Today there are research groups in Sweden at KTH in Stockholm and
at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlskrona dealing with different aspects
of nonlinear acoustics. We are honoured by the commission of the ISNA
International Organizing Committee to arrange the 18th ISNA in Stockholm. We
will make our best efforts to continue the strong ISNA tradition of successful
conferences.
The discipline of nonlinear acoustics is centered around the generation, measurement and mathematical and numerical analyses of sound waves, whose
amplitude is so high that the superposition principle is no longer valid. This
can be the case even for small perturbations in strongly nonlinear materials.
Interesting phenomena appear at the nonlinear interaction of sound waves in a
wide range of media: gases, liquids, solids, multiphase media, biological tissue,
just to mention some of them. The topics of the 18th ISNA cover all physical
aspects of nonlinear sound waves and their wide applications, including
shockwaves, medicine, communications, geophysics, material characterization,
musical instruments and industrial devices and instruments.
Welcome to Stockholm in July 2008!
