| Dear colleagues,
Welcome to the XXXVII Nordic Meeting of Gastroenterology
in Västerås, Sweden, 3-5 May, 2006.
Västerås is conveniently localised close to Stockholm,
with excellent transportations from all major cities in Sweden
including direct connections with Arlanda airport. The Aros Congress
Centre is of excellent quality and very well suited for a congress
of this size.
The Local Organizing Committee has outlined a preliminary programme
that we hope will attract your interest. It starts with Post-Graduate
Courses in Hepatology and Surgery on May 3.
The overall theme of the following days is "Nordic Gastroenterology
in the Changing Phase of Modern Society". We will particularly
focus on new challenges for Nordic gastroenterology such as obesitas,
under-nutrition, quality of life issues and health care problems
in new ethnical groups of patients. During these days separate
sessions consisting of both invited presentations and selected
abstracts will deal with issues in hepatology, inflammatory bowel
disease, bile duct diseases, endoscopy, dysmotility, dyspepsia
and IBS, pancreatic diseases and diseases in the oesophagus and
ventricle. In addition there will be four State of the Art lectures
and satellite symposia. We are also considering the possibility
to include mini-symposia on topics like "adolescence medicine",
"specific problems in the elderly" and "treatment of pain". Endoscopy
assistants and nurses will have a separate programme.
During the whole meeting industrial exhibitions, poster presentations,
luncheons and coffee breaks will take place in shared facilities.
Of course, the social part of the meeting also includes a "Get
together" on the evening of May 3 and congress dinner on May 4.
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee and the Swedish Society
of Gastroenterology I wish you all welcome to Västerås
in May 2006. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity
to meet with Nordic colleagues and experience the strength of
Nordic Gastroenterology. Please start to think about submissions
of your recent research work already now.
Best regards,

Stefan Lindgren
