It is my pleasure to invite you to the next SOE Congress which will take place in Vienna
between the 9th and 12th of June 2007 and which will mark the 50th anniversary of the
founding of the European Society of Ophthalmology.
Europe has changed a great deal since the early days of SOE and our Society is keeping up
with the pace of change at every level, including many exciting improvements you will see
when you attend the Jubilee SOE Congress in June.
We are delighted that our American sister organisation, the American Academy of
Ophthalmology (AAO) and our host, the Austrian Ophthalmological Society (ÖOG) have
agreed to join us to make our Jubilee Congress a true Joint SOE / AAO / ÖOG meeting.
The SOE Scientific Programme Committee also invited all the major European Sub-
Specialty Societies and many of their American counterparts to take active part in
the planning and in the presentation of the scientific programme. Their response was
overwhelmingly positive and as a result we shall be treated to over 60 sub-specialty lead
symposia and 20 instruction courses, which will provide a state of the art programme
presented by the leaders in each field.
These include our distinguished Key Note Speakers, Drs Stephen Ryan, Peng Khaw,
Richard Collin and Howard Fine as well as over 250 invited lecturers from around the globe.
There will be several debates on controversial topics and discussions specifically aimed at
the younger ophthalmologist, all of which will add interest and, at times, fun to the packed
scientific programme.
After all, SOE is your Society!

Free Papers will organised in thematic and in one or two “rapid fire” sessions. Equally
important are the Scientific Posters, which will be presented electronically. We are hoping
for a large number of posters, which we regard as important as any other contribution to the
scientific programme.
No SOE Congress would be complete without a great Social
Programme, which traditionally reflects the flavour of the host city.
We are indebted to our Austrian colleagues for their advice and
guidance: Vienna has so much to offer, catering to every taste with
its musical, artistic and culinary traditions!
On behalf of the SOE Council and the Scientific Programme
Committee, I invite you to join us in Vienna in June 2007 and to
help us make the Jubilee 2007 Joint SOE Congress a memorable
event and an exciting 50th Birthday celebration. |
Greetings!
The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is pleased to join the European Society
of Ophthalmology (SOE) in welcoming you to the 2007 Congress.
We very happily recognize the 50th anniversary of the SOE and are excited to join forces
with other world class leaders in providing you with an outstanding educational experience.
The Academy (AAO) is dedicated to advancing lifelong learning as well as the professional
interests of ophthalmologists worldwide so the public receives the best possible eye care.
We know that the 2007 Congress has outstanding courses, symposia and lectures in an
inspiring setting to facilitate education and learning. We look forward to participating in this
great congress.
It is our hope that you will join us in supporting the mission of the SOE 2007 Congress.
Through a spirit of true collaboration and full participation, we know you will have a
rewarding experience.
Sincerely,
|
